Jessica Klein is a soprano from Chicago, IL who is currently attending the Juilliard Opera Center. While attending her undergraduate institution, DePaul University, Jessica was invited by Richard Pearlman to work with the coaches at The Lyric Opera of Chicago. She was also asked to sing the National Anthem at US Cellular Field for the Chicago White Sox. In 2004 and 2006, Jessica attended the Chautauqua Institution, where she worked with Marlena Malas, Craig Rutenberg, and Stephen Lord. During her time in Chautauqua, she appeared as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata and Nijade in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. While earning her Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music, she sang the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Giorgetta in Puccini’s Il Tabarro. In 2005, Jessica was a semi-finalist in the Houston Grand Opera Competition, and the first place winner of the Bel Canto Competition of Chicago. In 2008, she went on to become the Grand Prize Winner of the Bel Canto Competition of Chicago, semi-finalist in the Belvedere Singing Competition, and she won both the New York City district and region of the Metropolitan Opera National Competition. She was also a semi-finalist in The Jette Parker-Covent Garden-Young Artists Competition. Jessica has sung in three concerts at Avery Fisher Hall. The first engagement was as the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with Manhattan Youth Orchestra. Her second appearance came while singing Clorinda from Massenet’s Cenerentola for the Tucker Foundation Gala. Her last performance at Avery Fisher was as the Confidant in Strauss’s Elektra. In April 2009, she will appear as Alice Ford in the Juilliard Opera Center’s performance of Verdi’s Falstaff.
