These singers appeared in the Finals Audition Concert on the stage of Jordan Hall on Sunday afternoon, February 10, 2002. They were judged by Gayletha Nichols, representing the Metropolitan Opera.

 

The first place prize is $5,000 ($4200 from the Patrons of New England and $800: The Mrs. Edgar Tobin Award).

The second place prize is $4,500 ($3,900 from the Patrons of New England and $600 from the Metropolitan Opera National Council).

 

The third place prize is $4,000 (each winner is awarded $4,000 —$3,600 from the Patrons of New England and $400 from the Metropolitan Opera National Council).

 

John Moriarty Encouragement Award (annual): $2,000.

 

All non-placing finalists received a stipend of $1,000, which includes the $300 from the semi-finalist stipend.

 

All semi-finalists received a stipend of $300.
