Leah Wool
Mezzo Soprano
New England Finalist, 2002

Mezzo-soprano Leah Wool is a native of Long Island, New York. Her operatic appearances include Léoena in Offenbach’s La Belle Hélène with The Santa Fe Opera, Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Siebel (Faust) with Yale Opera, Third Spirit (The Magic Flute) with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito) and Amastre (Xerxes) with Westminster Opera Theatre. Recent performances include the Sandman in Hansel and Gretel and Wowkle in La Fanciulla del West with Utah Opera, and the role of Delia in Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims with Chicago Opera Theatre. Upcoming engagements include Erika in Vanessa at Central City Opera, Hansel in the 2006 production of Hansel and Gretel in Opera Theater of St. Louis; and Karolka in Jenufa and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Utah Opera.

On the concert stage, Leah has appeared as mezzo-soprano soloist for works including Haydn’s Theresa Mass with the New Jersey Symphony, Bruckner’s Missa Solemnis with the Manchester Symphony, Bach’s Magnificat, Stravinksy’s Les Noces, and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass at Yale University and Handel’s Messiah with Utah Symphony.

Leah received an encouragement grant as a result of the 2003 Sullivan Foundation Awards, was the recipient of the 2003 Judith Raskin Memorial Award from The Santa Fe Opera, and the First-Place Winner of the 2003 Amici Vocal competition, as well as a District Winner of the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Leah was also the 2002 recipient of The Presser Award, a prestigious career/study grant from The Presser Foundation given in conjunction with Yale University.

Leah has been a Young Artist at The Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Opera North, The Caramoor Institute, and Spoleto Festival USA. Leah received her Master of Music and Artist Diploma from Yale University in 2002 and 2003, respectively. She received her Bachelor of Music magna cum laude from Westminster Choir College.
