Gyuyeon Shim
Soprano
New England Third Place Winner 2016

Soprano Gyuyeon Shim was highly acclaimed for her recent debut performance in Voce di meche playing Lakmé in Delibes’ Lakmé working with the Opera Delaware at the Manahattan School of Music. She is quote, “just such a star with a voice as exquisite as her face and form.” During the 2014-2015 season, Ms. Shim played several diverse roles. Her main performances include the role of Dalinda in Handel’s Ariodante at the Chautauqua Music Festival, and the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute along with Tytania in A Midsummer night’s dream both performed at the Manhattan School of Music. Ms. Shim’s scene work consists of Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos staged with the Chautauqua Music Festival as well as with the American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra. Other scene work include Don Pasquale as Norina, Il Mondo della Luna as Flamina, and Candide as Cunegonde. Ms. Shim previously has won 1st-prize & the Platinum award in 2015 at the Forte International Competition held at Carnegie Hall, and she has also won 2nd-prize in 2014 at an Austrian competition called Meistersinger-Gesangwettbewerb, where she sang Norina Aria. Ms. Shim received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Korea National University of Arts, her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and currently is in progress in receiving her graduate degree from the the New England Conservatory.
