Jason
Abrams Jason Abrams is rapidly becoming known as one of the rising stars of the next generation of countertenors. Since completing his studies at the New England Conservatory, the young American countertenor has been engaged by numerous music groups in the Northeast, and has been hailed as a performer of “…uncommon beauty of timbre and acting skill” by the Boston Globe. Audiences have seen Mr. Abrams perform such roles as Endymione in New England Conservatory’s production of La Calisto, Oberon in Boston University’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Nireno in Boston Baroque’s Giulio Cesare. Equally at home in the field of concert and oratorio, Mr.’ Abrams has performed solos with the Tiffany Consort of New and made appearances in New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall during it’s 100 th Anniversary Season, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, and in Tanglewood’s Seiji Ozawa Hall. He is the recipient of awards from the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Fritz & Lavinia Jensen Foundation, Connecticut Opera Guild, and in 2004, was awarded a Vocal Fellowship from the Tanglewood Music Institute. While at Tanglewood, he was featured in performances of Bach’s Cantata #53: Schlage Doch with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia, conducted by Robert Spano, and Britten’s Canticle IV: Journey of the Magi. The previous summer, he was a member of the Studio Artist program at Central City Opera, where he was awarded the Starkey Young Artist Award. 2005-06 performances include appearances with the Waverly Consort, the Virgin Consort, and the Providence Chorale. Mr. Abrams holds music degrees from New England Conservatory, the University of Arizona, and James Madison University. He currently resides in Manhattan where he performs extensively with various early music ensembles and continues to collaborate with some of music’s most exciting minds and voices.
