Donna Ames
Mezzo -Soprano
New England Third Place Winner 1993

Donna Ames holds the Vocal Department chair at The Rivers School Conservatory in Weston and is also a Singing Instructor of The Institute of Advanced Theater Training at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University. The mezzo continues to take part in concerts and recitals in the Greater Boston area.

 

A native of Fargo, North Dakota, Donna received an advanced performance degree from Boston University’s Opera Institute and apprenticed with both Chautauqua Opera and with the San Francisco Opera in the Merola Opera Program. In her operatic career she sang a number of leading and supporting roles in operatic productions throughout the United States, including Carmen, Hänsel, Siebel in Faust, and Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, as a frequent guest artist with the Arizona Opera, Opera Festival of New Jersey, Chautauqua Opera, Riverside Opera, Opera Southwest, Portland Opera Repertoire Theater, and Marin Opera.

 

Donna was a first place winner of the The San Francisco Opera Auditions as well as the New England Regional Auditions, and was a recipient of the The Liederkranz Foundation and the Arizona Community Foundation awards,  along with a William Matheus Sullivan Foundation Role Preparation Grant.
