Now an established stage director, in the 2015-2016 season Dean Anthony will pace La traviata and The Merry Widow for Pensacola Opera, HMS Pinafore and Dead Man Walking for Shreveport Opera, Falstaff for Opera Delaware, The Ballad of Baby Doe for Amarillo Opera, Carmen for Opera on the James, and a premiere of J. Mark Scearce's opera Falling Angel and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center, where he is Director of Opera. Other recent projects have included The Pirates of Penzance with Nashville Opera; La bohème and Carmen in Pensacola; Carmen also with Tulsa Opera, Florentine Opera, and the Pacific Symphony; Glory Denied, by Tom Cipullo, with the Fort Worth Opera Festival; The Elixir of Love with Opera Delaware; The Barber of Seville with Opera Naples, I Pagliacci in Shreveport, and Rigoletto and The Ballad of Baby Doe with the Janiec Opera Company.

 

In his twenty-five year as a performer with major companies across the United States and beyond, Dean created over 100 roles, most notably Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Pong in Turandot, Goro in Madama Butterfly, Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Bat in Susanna, the four servants in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Bardolfo in Falstaff, Curley in Of Mice and Men, the Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Beppe in I Pagliacci, Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and Sancho in Man of La Mancha. He was often referred to as the “Tumbling Tenor” for the physical and acrobatic abilities that enhanced his vocal and dramatic talents. His unique Master Class series based on Movement and Acting for Singers has lead him to Nashvlle Opera, Florentine Opera, Virginia Opera, Shreveport Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, Festival Lyrique de Belle Île en Mer, Brevard Music Center, Texas State University, Astonia Music Festival, University of Wisconsin Green Bay, University of Kansas, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Central Methodist College.
