Lyric coloratura Sydney Mancasola adds “2013 Metropolitan Opera National Council Winner” to her list of recent accolades: Finalist, Loren L. Zachary Society Vocal Competition, 2013; Second Place and Audience Choice, Houston Grand Opera's Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers, 2013; Honorable Mention, George London Foundation Vocal Competition, 2013; The Hans Hachmann Memorial Award, Liederkranz Competition, 2013; Sullivan Foundation Career Development Award, 2012; Recipient, Judith Raskin Memorial Award for Singers, Santa Fe Opera, 2012; Encouragement Award, Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition, 2012; Encouragement Award, George London Foundation Vocal Competition, 2012; and Regional Finalist and Encouragement Award, Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Southeast), 2012. Sydney is currently a second year resident artist at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she has sung has sung Adina in L’elisir d’amore, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, and Antonia and Stella in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. In the summer of 2012, Sydney apprenticed at Santa Fe Opera, where she covered the role of Zdenka in Arabella. On the concert stage, Sydney has performed Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer, and recently appeared in the 2012 international music festival Calí de Camara in Colombia, South America singing Schubert’s Mass in G, and Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate. This summer the soprano will join Fort Worth Opera in the role of Young Alyce in Glory Denied by contemporary American composer Tom Cipullo.


Originally from Redding, California, Sydney earned a B.M. in Vocal Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she was a recipient of the Margot Bos Standler Scholarship. Ms. Mancasola is also an alumna of the Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ Gerdine Young Artist Program, and Brevard Music Center’s Janeic Opera Company as well as the Santa Fe Apprentice Program. Her other roles include Adele in Die Fledermaus and Adina in L'elisir d'amore with the Brevard Music Center; Cunégonde in Candide, Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito, and Despina in Così fan tutte with Oberlin Opera Theater; and a cover of Marie in The Daughter of the Regiment with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Past awards include Third Place in the 2011 Giargiari Bel Canto Competition - WRTI broadcast radio online poll; Second Prize in the 2011 Florida Grand Opera Young Patronesses Competition; First Place in the 2010 Dayton Opera Guild Tri-State Vocal Competition; and First Place in the 2010 Oberlin Conservatory Concerto Competition.
