After returning to Virginia’s Opera on the James in March 2015 as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, the soprano joined the New Haven Symphony for the Beethoven Ninth and then went on to Tokyo to perform concert arias with “La Folle Journée au Japon,” a music festival based in Nantes, France. Earlier last  season she returned to Boston for Britten’s “War Requiem” with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Symphony Hall. Other recent appearances include Leonore in Fidelio at the 2014 Shippensburg Music Festival (PA), Mahler’s “Rückert Lieder” with the Guatamala National Symphony, and a concert of opera arias with the Cincinnati Symphony. In April 2016 Amanda sings in the Ninth with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, Florida.

 

Amanda Pabyan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Art, a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts, and a Doctorate in Vocal Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. The soprano appeared with the Santa Fe Opera as part of the company’s Apprentice Artist Program Inverness in 2001, joined Glimmerglass Opera as a member of the Young American Artist Program in the summer of 2002, and then participated in the Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program.

 

Since the 2003/4 season, when she sang Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte with New York City Opera, Amanda has brought that signature role to Dallas Opera, Utah Symphony & Opera, Arizona Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, the Cincinnati Symphony May Festival, Washington National Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Minnesota Opera, Opera Colorado, Anchorage Opera, and Florida Grand Opera, and to the Met for her 2007 debut. Other Mozart specialties have been Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Colorado, Michigan Opera Theater, Portland Opera, and Toronto’s Opera Atelier; Susanna in Le nozze di Figaroand most recently Donna Anna in Don Giovanniwith Syracuse Opera; and Fiordiligi in Cosìfan tutte with the Lyrique-en-mer festival in Belle ile, France.

 

Amanda’s other roles have included Rosmene in Handel’s Imeneo and Euridice in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice at Glimmerglass; Thaïs at Kentucky Opera; the title roles in Lakmé and Lucia di Lammermoorwith Canterbury Opera in Christchurch, New Zealand; Fido in Paul Bunyan at Florida Grand Opera; Gretel for Washington National Opera; Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, and Roselinda in Die Fledermaus with Opera on the James.
