Jami Rogers
New England Second Place Winner, 1994

After almost twenty years of performing with opera companies and symphonies around this country and abroad, Jami Rogers-Anderson has returned to her home town of Knoxville, Tennessee, where she is a planner and performer for private events and special occasions. A graduate of Knoxville’s West High School, Jami earned a Bachelor of Music degree magna cum laude from Boston University and received an Artist’s Diploma from the Boston University Opera Institute. She has since returned to her alma mater as a teacher at the Tanglewood Institute, and has taught master classes at the State University of New York at Potsdam, University of North Carolina Wilmington, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Pellissippi State Community College in her hometown.


Career highlights for Jami include Sophie in Werther with both the Los Angeles Opera and the Boston Lyric Opera, and Poucette in Manon with the Metropolitan Opera. Jami has also performed in numerous operas of Mozart, most notably as Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte at New York City Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, L’Opera de Montreal, Sarasota Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, and more. Other Mozart roles have included Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito with Opera Theater of St. Louis, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro with Hawaii Opera Theater, Aspasia in Mitridate, re di Ponto with Wolf Trap Opera, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni with St. Barth’s Music Festival. Jami also appeared as Juliette in Romeo et Juliette with Hawaii Opera Theater, Cleveland Opera, and El Paso Opera and Adele in Die Fledermaus with Kentucky Opera and Opera Grand Rapids, along with many other roles. She also performed with Boston Midsummer Opera in “The Marriages of Mozart” with her husband, tenor Kevin Anderson.


Earlier, Jami appeared often with the New York City Opera, in roles including including Gilda in Rigoletto, Fido the roller skating dog in Britten’s Paul Bunyan, and Fire and The Nightingale in L’enfant et les Sortileges. Other roles have included Rosina with the Palm Beach Opera; Iris in The Tempest and Papagena with The Dallas Opera; Musetta with Knoxville Opera; Mabel in Pirates of Penzance with Cleveland Opera; Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos with Sarasota Opera; and Marie in La Fille du Regiment and Counegonde in Candide with Lake George Opera. The soprano also appeared often in concerts and recitals with orchestras such as the Atlanta Symphony, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Savannah Symphony, and the Cincinnati Pops.  

Jami Rogers-Anderson was the 1995 winner of the Opera Index Awards in New York City, the recipient of the Hyndman Award for Professional Development from the Opera Theater of St. Louis, and First Prize winner of the Young Patronesses of the Florida Grand Opera International Vocal Competition.
